SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) - A southbound lane is open again on Interstate 65 in southern Indiana but state police warn traffic is moving very slowly.
Both southbound lanes were closed for several hours Thursday about 50 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky, because of road work and a major pavement failure.
Police are urging motorists to use caution.
Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Harry Maginity says traffic was diverted to U.S. 31 at Seymour until work crews could repair of the pavement collapse in the only lane that was open in a construction zone. He says “the pavement just cracked up and blew away.”
Maginity says heavy truck traffic and high temperatures might have contributed to the pavement failure.
