CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - The former federal building in the southeast Missouri town of Cape Girardeau has a new owner - a city councilman.

The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1oNA3PS ) reports that Joseph Uzoaru has taken possession of the building and plans to use it as an office building. The first tenant has already signed a lease and moves into the building in August.

The building was listed at $1 million, but Uzoaru’s purchase price has not been disclosed.

The building was previously owned by Majid Hemmasi of RDRH Holdings Inc. of Austin, Texas, who purchased it for $325,015 at an auction in 2012.

In addition to his role in city government, Uzoara runs Athena Property Group, which manages about 200 rental units in midtown Cape Girardeau.
