OPINION:
The truth is that not all elected offices are filled by people who are fit to govern, but these people will govern, nevertheless.
It is not a question of general fitness for office, but rather who is the most fit of the choices available — and not on one issue alone, such as abortion, but on the largest number of significant issues (“Why the greater good sometimes necessitates compromise,” Web, May 27).
Dr. Ben S. Carson does not imply that he favors abortion. He says that a candidate’s abortion stance should not be the sole factor in determining whether one supports that candidate.
Someone will win, fit or unfit. Making the best — not the perfect — choice is up to us.
