PAYSON, Ariz. (AP) - Crews have fully contained a forest fire in eastern Arizona that was started by an illegal campfire.
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest officials said Wednesday the fire was contained at 88 acres and no structures or power lines were damaged and there were no reported injuries.
The fire was reported on May 21 near Woods Canyon Lake. The location is about 30 miles east of Payson and about 20 miles west of Heber-Overgaard.
Forest officials say the illegal campfire was outside of developed campgrounds while fire restrictions were in effect.
They say evidence has been collected and interviews conducted as the investigation continues.
