MONESSEN, Pa. (AP) - Police and the county coroner’s office were investigating the slaying of a man who was recently released from jail on drug charges.

Monessen police say two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and bandannas over their faces shot the victim, 31-year-old Dennis Fitzwater, about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say Fitzwater was staying in a friend’s home with two other adults and two small children who weren’t harmed. Police haven’t released the names of the others.

Monessen police Chief John Mandarino says Fitzwater was found with duct tape around his wrists.

The Westmoreland County coroner’s office says an autopsy would be performed Thursday, though the incident is being treated as a homicide.

County detectives and Monessen police haven’t named or charged any suspects.

Fitzwater got out of the county jail Thursday, and had been awaiting a preliminary hearing on drug charges.
