INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man will be sentenced Aug. 18 on charges he murdered a man during a drug-related robbery on a rural walking trail.
Thirty-four-year-old Gregory Patterson, of Glen Campbell, was convicted Friday by an Indiana County jury of second-degree murder and other charges in the June 24 death of 46-year-old James Alexander.
Indiana County prosecutors say Patterson and another Glen Campbell man, 23-year-old Christopher Salsgiver, plotted to rob Alexander because they believed Alexander had ripped them off during previous heroin deals.
Patterson claims Salsgiver shot Alexander, which Salsgiver denies. He’s scheduled to stand trial in Alexander’s killing next month.
Defense attorney Gregory Patterson asked an Indiana County judge to reverse the jury’s verdict against Patterson, saying the evidence implicates Salsgiver. The judge says he’ll rule on that motion when Patterson is sentenced in August.
