DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a South Carolina man who went missing while kayaking off South Florida was wearing scuba diving gear when a fisherman found his body.

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating the death of David Lemonds of Aiken, South Carolina. An autopsy is pending.

The sheriff’s office said Monday that Lemonds was wearing scuba gear and a dive tank when his body was recovered Sunday in the Atlantic.

Authorities say local kayakers saw Lemonds leave John U. Lloyd Beach State Park on Thursday morning in a 12-foot yellow ocean kayak. Park rangers alerted the Coast Guard on Friday after seeing that Lemonds’ truck had remained undisturbed overnight.
