HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - A new bus route will serve sections of Hammond and Munster in northwest Indiana.
The new routes will include Purdue University Calumet and the Wal-Mart in Hammond as well as shopping centers and medical offices there and in Highland and Munster.
Gary Public Transit Corp. begins its Hammond Lakeshore bus service on Tuesday.
The transit corporation also wanted to expand service into the northern part of Hammond, but funding for that hasn’t been found yet.
The Post Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1nLF4qQ ) that half the $140,000 cost of the new route is being paid by the federal government. Money from fares, grants and other sources will support the rest.
Schedules are available at www.gptcbus.com/routes.htm.
