MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - Milford claims to be home to Connecticut’s tallest flagpole.
A new flagpole that rises 110 feet above the ground - not including an eagle - replaces a 99.7-foot pole put up 60 years ago on the Milford Green. Officials said the old pole had to come down because it had stress cracks and would have become a safety hazard.
Mayor Benjamin Blake tells Hearst Connecticut Media Group (https://bit.ly/TNaxQA ) that from all accounts, it’s the tallest flagpole in the state, outdistancing Newtown’s 100-foot flagpole.
The first flag was hoisted up Milford’s new flagpole on Sunday following an annual Memorial Day weekend wreath-laying ceremony at City Hall.
