WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) - A 92-year-old whose death was declared a homicide by state police had feared a violent end, a family member said.
The death of Aurele Fecteau, whose body was discovered in his home on Friday, was declared to be a homicide over the weekend, based on the medical examiner’s findings.
Lorraine Fecteau, the victim’s daughter-in-law, told the Morning Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1k8LSLh) in an email that he feared that he’d be the victim of a crime.
“Given my father-in-law’s age, we knew his time was short, but none of us ever expected his life would be cut short in such a horrific way. Never,” she wrote. “It is a shock to all of us even though he feared this type of crime would someday be perpetrated against him. Sadly, that fear came to pass.”
Police declined to say how he died, and autopsy results were not released.
Waterville and state police detectives are continuing to investigate. Lorraine Fecteau said preying on the elderly is “cowardly act” and that the family has confidence investigators solve the case.
