HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Veterinarians say an eaglet rescued after falling 60 feet from a nest near Jordan Lake died after more than a week of care.
Officials at the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville said veterinarians discovered an additional fracture near the eaglet’s wing over the weekend.
Surgery to repair it was not successful. Doctors say because of that and other serious injuries, they determined it was best to euthanize the eaglet.
A second eaglet in the nest died in the fall after a storm on May 15 at the lake near Raleigh.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers set up a camera, which showed the eaglets hatch and develop. The camera also caught the eaglets sliding out of the nest in the rain and wind during the storm.
