LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A recently released Lafayette Parish coroner’s report reveals that drugs contributed to the accidental drowning of 21-year-old Alexandria Shelton at a park in Lafayette

The Advertiser of Lafayette reports (https://bit.ly/1nkY1SW) that the official cause of death was ruled drowning with contribution of drug toxicity.

Keith Talamo, an investigator for the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, says marijuana and synthetic marijuana were the two drugs discovered through the autopsy.

Shelton’s body was found early April 13 in the Girard Park pond after friends had reported her missing the previous night.

The full report was completed this past week, and Lafayette Police met with the Shelton family to discuss the findings.

Shelton was a student at Grambling State University in north Louisiana.
