MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Several people have been displaced after a fire at a northwestern Indiana apartment complex.
Merrillville Fire Chief Ed Yerga says about 50 firefighters from seven departments fought the blaze Saturday afternoon at the Hickory Ridge Lake Apartments. He says a fire in the ceiling of a third-floor apartment spread halfway down one of the buildings at the nearly 400-unit complex about five miles south of Gary.
Yerga says several apartments suffered fire and water damage.
He says no one was injured.
Reggie Thomas tells The (Munster) Times (https://bit.ly/S74G7j ) he had just returned in his car from an errand when he saw the fire trucks and rushed in to rescue his frantic dog.
