HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say a woman was shot four times by her boyfriend inside of a Family Dollar store in Hartford before he shot himself in the shoulder.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley says that the 41-year-old woman was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Hartford Hospital Saturday night. He says 51-year-old Elvin Perez-Soto was in stable condition and under police guard. He faces charges including attempted murder.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Foley says the shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. Saturday and that Perez-Soto did not have a permit for the revolver.

Police are investigating, including reviewing surveillance video from the store.

Foley says employees in the store at the time of the shooting ran and hid in the manager’s office.
