INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Court documents say the mother of an Indiana man who died after he was jailed intends to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Greensburg Daily News reported Saturday ( https://bit.ly/SwTS2K ) that Lynn Brewsaugh has been appointed special administrator in M. Shane Satterfield’s estate “for the sole purpose of pursuing a wrongful death claim.”

Thirty-eight-year-old Satterfield died March 17 after he stopped breathing at the Decatur County Jail in Greensburg. Brewsaugh’s filing accuses jail officials of negligence.

Sheriff Greg Allen declined comment, but he has said Satterfield died at a hospital after jail officers called an ambulance because he was incoherent. A preliminary autopsy found Satterfield died of natural causes, but a final ruling is awaiting results of toxicology tests.

Satterfield was serving a 14-day sentence for drunk driving.
