LOCKE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a central New York man who suffered burns to more than 60 percent of his body following an alleged meth lab explosion has succumbed to his injuries.

Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould said in a statement Friday that Shawn L. Perreault died Wednesday at University Hospital in Syracuse.

Gould says the 47-year-old man was cooking meth inside his mobile home in Locke on May 12 when an explosion set the home and a nearby barn on fire. Gould says a 4-year-old child and two adults escaped uninjured.

Police say Perreault’s wife drove him to Cortland Memorial Hospital. He then was flown to University Hospital.

The sheriff’s office says forensic investigators have determined the explosion was caused by a failed attempt to make meth.
