CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - An 18-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation for aggravated vehicular homicide.
Jacob Torres was sentenced Friday by District Judge Thomas Campbell.
Torres could have received up to 15 years in prison in the death of his friend Chance Garcia last June.
Torres pleaded guilty to the charge in February as part of the plea deal.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1iexZvg ) that Garcia’s parents asked for a harsher sentence than probation.
Torres told the judge he accepts responsibility and apologized.
Campbell accepted the supervised probation but denied a deferment that would have made Torres eligible for an early release from probation and would have allowed his record to not reflect a felony conviction.
Torres also was ordered to pay about $12,400 restitution.
