ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - More sections of the New York State Canal System have reopened after high water caused by heavy rains forced the closure of nearly half of the 524-mile waterway.
The state Canal Corp. says Friday that the Erie Canal from Lock E-23 near the eastern end of Oneida Lake to Three Rivers north of Syracuse has reopened. The canal from Lock E-25 in Mays Point to Lock E-26 in Clyde, the Oswego Canal, and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake are now open.
Closed sections of the waterway include the Erie Canal between Three Rivers and Lock E-25, the canal’s Genesee River crossing in Rochester and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal from Lock CS-1 to the Erie Canal.
Heavy rains last week caused flooding that raised water levels throughout the canal system.
