TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The mother of a 22-year-old man who was fatally shot by a Tulsa police officer says her son was a military veteran who likely suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Cody Young was shot to death early Wednesday by Officer Gene Hogan. Tulsa police say Hogan opened fire after Young fired a shotgun at police while standing in a second-story window.

Young’s mother, Angie Young, says her son had served in Afghanistan with the Oklahoma National Guard. She tells the Tulsa World (https://bit.ly/1piPzmB ) her son’s behavior changed drastically when he returned home from his deployment.

Angie Young says she doesn’t fault Hogan for the fatal shooting, saying that the police officers had to protect themselves.

According to Oklahoma National Guard officials, Young was a member of Company F, 700 Support Battalion.
