HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Some shore-bound motorists will get a break on tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway.
The $3 toll will be waived for eastbound traffic at the Egg Harbor toll plaza between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Memorial Day weekend toll-free event is part of a promotion to launch the unofficial start of the Jersey Shore’s summer tourism season.
A sports-bar franchise, Chickie’s & Pete’s, will pick up the tab for the estimated $13,000 in tolls usually collected during the hour.
The South Jersey Transportation Authority’s deputy executive director tells The Press of Atlantic City (https://bit.ly/1o97Sx7 ) she wishes there were more sponsors to have a longer toll-free event.
The break will apply to motorists who pay with cash or E-ZPass.
Tolls will resume at 6 p.m. Friday.
