PINETOP-LAKESIDE, Ariz. (AP) - Anglers in the White Mountains will have a better chance of catching fish this Memorial Day weekend.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is stocking lakes in Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside with thousands of warm water fish, starting Wednesday.
Fool Hollow and Woodland Lakes are getting a combined 6,000 sunfish. Scott Reservoir, and Rainbow and Show Low lakes will share about 4,000 catfish.
Fisheries program manager Mike Lopez says the fish should become more active as temperatures rise. He says trout will increasingly become less active.
The department says its stocking of warm water fish in the lakes is the largest in 20 years and due to a surplus of funds designated for the fish.
