ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An Anchorage tax assessor removed from the board that sets the tax value of the trans-Alaska pipeline system is running for state House.
Marty McGee filed to run for the seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Mia Costello, who’s running for Senate. KTVA reports (https://bit.ly/1jVmoRc) McGee recently changed his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat.
As chairman of the State Assessment Review Board, McGee supported a far-higher pipeline valuation than the industry did. He was removed earlier this year by Gov. Sean Parnell, who said he wanted a fresh perspective on the board.
McGee said Parnell was trying to “stack” the board with individuals sympathetic to industry.
McGee said he’s running for office because he thinks the oil industry has too much influence.
The candidate filing deadline is June 2.
