WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - Officials have come up with a three-year plan to manage campsites that have fallen outside the boundaries of the Little River State Park and Waterbury Center State Park in Vermont.
The campsites are around the popular Waterbury Reservoir.
Northeast Parks Regional Manager Susan Bulmer tells Vermont Public Radio (https://bit.ly/1k4XrrQ) the department has identified nearly 35 campsites that have no formal oversight. The plan, which would go into effect this season, would include improving some campsites if the funding is available.
Vermont State Police Captain Paul White says because there has been no formal management of camping in the area, state police officers and game wardens have been placed in the position of being called to deal with disturbances without having clear guidance on what activities are permitted.
