JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing more than $2.5 million in grants to help raise houses in flood-ravaged Galena.

Alaska’s two U.S. senators announced the funding Tuesday, nearly a year after Galena was devastated by flooding from an ice jam in the Yukon River.

They said the grant funds would help cover costs to elevate 16 or 17 houses in an effort to help avoid future flooding of the homes.
