MELVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli (dee-NAP’-oh-lee) has won the Democratic Party’s nomination for a second term.
DiNapoli received his party’s nod Wednesday at the Democratic state convention on Long Island. He faces Onondaga County Comptroller Robert Antonacci (an-tuh-NAH’-chee) in the fall election.
A former lawmaker, DiNapoli was appointed to the comptroller’s office in 2007 and elected to a full term in 2010. In his acceptance speech, he cited his work to audit state spending, manage the state’s pension system to a record high and help financially struggling cities and towns.
DiNapoli has championed public campaign financing, but won’t participate in a pilot public financing system authorized for the comptroller’s race this year.
Polls give DiNapoli the lead over Antonacci but show many voters don’t have an opinion about his tenure.
