MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (AP) - Thieves have stolen at least $500,000 in inventory from an Orange County jewelry store in the third robbery of its kind in recent months.

Sam Hassine, the owner of Nuggets & Carats, told the Orange County Register (https://bit.ly/1sUVHl4) on Wednesday that the thieves dropped in through the bathroom ceiling in the middle of the night over the weekend.

The heist is similar to two others in the past three months in Orange County that resulted in a combined $1.7 million in losses.

Authorities haven’t made any arrests in any of the cases. The other burglaries were in Tustin and Laguna Hills.

Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeff Hallock says investigators are looking into whether the crimes are connected, although there’s no evidence yet to suggest they are.
