BELOIT, Wis. (AP) - Bail is set at $100,000 for a 40-year-old man accused of striking and killing a Beloit woman with her van as he fled police.
Christopher Rutherford of Beloit is charged in Rock County with first-degree reckless homicide.
Rutherford is accused in the death of 47-year-old Sheila Rosenbaum. Officers went to a Beloit home on May 11 on an unwanted person complaint, where they found Rosenbaum and Rutherford.
The Beloit Daily News (https://bit.ly/RVFsc5) reports that officers tried to arrest Rutherford but he allegedly got away, jumped in Rosenbaum’s van and hit her. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police fired at the van, and Rutherford crashed and was caught. He was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound and was arrested once he was released from the hospital Tuesday.
