CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Point guard Stilman White is returning to North Carolina after missing two seasons while on a Mormon mission in Utah.

White played 34 games as a freshman in 2011-12, mostly behind Bob Cousy award winner Kendall Marshall. But White became a starter after Marshall suffered a broken wrist in the NCAA tournament.

He had 13 assists with no turnovers in his two starts, an overtime win against Ohio in the round of 16 and a regional-final loss to Kansas.

White will join a deep backcourt featuring three other players with point-guard experience: all-conference junior Marcus Paige, sophomore Nate Britt and freshman Joel Berry.

Coach Roy Williams says White is recovering from an ankle injury in addition to his layoff “so he has some work to do to catch up.”
