PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The sentencing of former Gautier police officer Robert Hill on sex crime charges is now set for June 12 after Hill hired a new attorney.
Hill, 47, pleaded guilty in February to three sexual battery charges and one charge of touching of a child for lustful purposes.
In exchange for Hill’s plea, the state opted not to prosecute a total of 11 charges of touching of a child for lustful purposes by a person in a position of trust or authority over the child.
Hill was a veteran police officer when he was arrested in September 2011 on 15 felony charges accusing him of having sex with a minor or touching her inappropriately while in a position of authority.
He was indicted on 12 counts of touching a child for lustful purposes and three counts of sexual battery.
The alleged incidents, all involving a minor under the age of 14, occurred at different times between March 1 and July 3, 2011.
At the time of his arrest, Hill had worked in Gautier for three years. He had worked previously as a police officer in Philadelphia, Miss. Before that, he was a law enforcement officer at agencies in Sebastian County, Arkansas, and in McNairy County, Tennessee.
