INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Mike Pence and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard are lamenting the city losing its bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl.

NFL owners selected Minneapolis on Tuesday to host the NFL championship game.

Pence has issued a statement commending the Indianapolis Super Bowl Bid Committee and all those who worked on the city’s bid.

Ballard says the Indianapolis committee put forward a very compelling presentation for the NFL owners. Ballard also congratulated Minneapolis for winning the game.

Minneapolis has a new $1 billion stadium that’s scheduled to open in 2016.

Indianapolis hosted the Super Bowl two years ago.

New Orleans also was vying to host the 2018 Super Bowl.
