CADILLAC, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say workers demolishing a condemned home in Michigan’s northwestern Lower Peninsula have found a World War I-era mortar round.

WPBN-WTOM and MLive.com report police responded Monday to the home in Cadillac after the discovery.

Two police bomb technicians examined the device and determined it was a 3-inch mortar round. It was believed to be a practice round, but as a precaution authorities took it to a gravel pit and further examined it. The round was found to be filled with sand.
