ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Aspen is marking the unofficial start of summer with more skiing.

Aspen Skiing Company announced Tuesday that it will open the top of Aspen Mountain for skiing and snowboarding Memorial Day weekend.

The company says the top of the mountain has a base depth of 53 inches of snow.

The state’s snowpack got a boost from the Mother’s Day storm that brought up 3 feet of snow to some areas. Overall, Colorado’s snowpack is 149 percent of average, although levels are much lower in the state’s southwestern corner.
