INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A Democratic House candidate says House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner should be sanctioned for his efforts to kill legislation that could have cost his family’s nursing home business millions.
Democrat Bob Ashley called Turner’s actions “morally corrupt” and said House Speaker Brian Bosma should consider stripping his role in House leadership. Ashley is running for the central Indiana seat held by Turner.
Turner said in a statement Friday that the House Ethics Committee cleared his record.
The panel determined Wednesday that Turner did not break any existing rules. But members said his actions exposed problems with the existing ethics rules themselves.
Senate Republican leaders sanctioned Sen. Mike Delph of Carmel earlier this year after he criticized their handling of the gay marriage issue.
