NEW YORK (AP) - A man shot and wounded by police after he pointed a gun at them in East Harlem has been placed under arrest.

Police say 23-year-old Michael Schultz faces charges of attempted assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.

They say he’s in critical but stable condition following the shooting early Sunday morning.

Authorities say uniformed officers responded to a 911 call of a large disorderly group and a man with a firearm in the Washington Houses. The officers were questioning a man when he fled, and they saw he had a gun.

Police say officers gave chase, and suspect turned and pointed a .22-caliber revolver at the officers who then fired at him.

The incident was the third police-involved shooting in recent days. .
