THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Child abduction survivor Elizabeth Smart will be the featured speaker at the Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy at Nicholls State University in June.

Smart was 14 years old when she was abducted in 2002 from her family’s Salt Lake City home and held captive for nine months.

She’s now an author and an advocate for victim recovery programs and child protection laws.

The Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy is a four-day program designed to help high school girls, grades 9-11, become community leaders.

The Daily Comet reports (https://bit.ly/1hLBXv9 ) about 50 young women will attend the June 8-11 program.

Smart’s talk is scheduled for June 11 at 3 p.m. at the Nicholls Student Union during the program’s closing ceremonies.
