SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say it may take weeks to clear all of the wreckage from a train derailment in southern Indiana.
They say eight rail cars derailed Saturday in Scottsburg and blocked several intersections in the city about 30 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky, until engines could be brought in to clear the remainder of the 70-car train.
Scott County Emergency Management Director David Murphy says the derailed cars were carrying automobiles. He says there were no injuries or hazardous situations.
However, he tells WHAS-TV that it will take some time, possibly weeks, to remove the remaining wreckage. The derailment spanned about two city blocks.
The derailed cars were near the front of the train. It’s not clear what cause the derailment.
