PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix firefighter is being remembered a year after he was accidentally struck and killed while responding to a fire.
The Phoenix Fire Department is set to unveil a historical marker Monday morning near the area where 23-year-old Brad Harper died.
Authorities say Harper was at the scene of a mulch fire on May 18, 2013 when he became trapped between a fire engine and a door of a rescue ambulance.
A police report found that the driver of the engine did not use a spotter when driving in reverse. The 37,000-pound fire truck ended up hitting Harper.
A two-year veteran of the department, Harper was pronounced dead at a hospital the following morning.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m.
