BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The manager of a popular college pub in Buffalo has been charged with throwing a New York Air National Guard member down a flight of stairs, leaving him with a severe brain injury.

The Buffalo News reports (https://bit.ly/RMIMpC ) that 35-year-old Jeffrey Basil pleaded not guilty Sunday morning to first-degree assault for the attack that left 28-year-old Tech. Sgt. William Sager Jr. of Silver Creek near death.

Judge Joseph Fiorella set bail at $250,000. Basil was returned to the Erie County jail.

The prosecutor argued against bail, saying it could become a homicide case.

Basil is manager of Molly’s Pub where the attack happened a week ago.

The newspaper reports that two off-duty Buffalo police officers who were at the pub have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
