DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - City and school officials in north Alabama are warning parents that local gangs may use summer vacation from school as an opportunity to recruit new members.

Decatur Youth Services Director Bruce Jones tells the Decatur Daily (https://bit.ly/1lAvjKx ) gangs are always looking for new members, but capitalize on students being easily approachable when they’re out of school for the summer.

Decatur police Lt. Proncey Robertson says parents have the most influence on their children during nights and weekends, and should be aware of people their children are spending time with.
