WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - A 15-year-old Williston girl is recovering after being shot in the face while driving last month.

Williams County Sheriff’s Department investigator Caleb Fry says a 12-year-old acquaintance did not intend to shoot Page Stearns on April 18 and did not act maliciously.

Stearns tells the Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/S3A4Eb ) that she was driving around with the boy and another friend, and told the 12-year-old she didn’t want to get in trouble because he didn’t have a license.

Stearns says the boy told her he would shoot her if she didn’t stop talking, then put a .22-caliber handgun to her face and pulled the trigger.

Fry says the boy has been cited as a juvenile for felony reckless endangerment.
