GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A University of North Dakota team is launching a rocket in national competition.
The group of three students and one faculty member is competing against 15 other teams in Saturday’s event on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
The UND rocket is expected to fly to 6,200 feet using an L850 rocket motor. The project includes testing on whether liquid fuel is wasted in zero gravity situations.
The team includes Nicole Fitzgerald, a senior math major from Chicago; Emeke Opute, a graduate mechanical engineer from Nigeria; and Xuchu Xu, a sophomore mechanical engineer from China.
The adviser is Tim Young, a professor in physics and astrophysics.
