BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago couple has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the starvation death of their infant daughter.

Police in Barrington announced the charges Friday evening.

Nineteen-year-old Markisha Jones and 22-year-old Gene Edwards were to appear in bond court Saturday. It was not immediately clear if they already had an attorney.

Their 7-month girl died in January at an apartment the couple was renting in Barrington. They currently live in Bolingbrook.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled the girl’s death a homicide due to malnutrition from starvation.

The girl’s twin sister was taken into custody by child welfare authorities.
