NEW YORK (AP) - An Orthodox Jewish man has pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual abuse, capping a high-profile case that became a factor in the 2013 Brooklyn district attorney’s race.
Baruch Lebovits appeared in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn Friday, telling a judge he abused a teenage boy eight different times in 2004 and 2005.
He’ll be sentenced to two years on July 9 but has already served 13 months.
Lebovits was convicted in 2010 of abusing a boy but that conviction was overturned in 2012.
During the 2013 election, District Attorney Kenneth Thompson called the case against Lebovits botched. His predecessor, Charles Hynes, had stood behind the prosecution.
Defense attorney Arthur Aidala told the Daily News (https://nydn.us/1qLfW9c ) the guilty plea is a tremendous relief. He says justice has been done.
