EXETER, N.H. (AP) - The girls lacrosse team at Exeter High School is honoring their late coach Stephen Arkell, a New Hampshire police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Arkell of Brentwood was shot to death after responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home Monday.
On Friday, the lacrosse team played their first game since his death, tying ribbons in their hair to honor him. WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1n7eQi5) that a moment of silence was held and the opposing team from Souhegan presented the Exeter team with flowers.
Also on Friday, police escorted the hearse carrying Arkell’s body to a funeral home for next week’s funeral.
Thousands of police officers and members of the public are expected to pay respects to Arkell at Exeter High School.
