LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - A 23-year-old man faces a count of manslaughter after police say he admitted becoming frustrated with his inconsolable 4-week-old daughter and placing his hand over her mouth to prevent her from crying.

Walker police Capt. John Sharp tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1lHsY24 ) the infant died Tuesday after being taken off life support at a hospital.

Sharp says Franklin D. Finney was arrested Wednesday and remains in the Livingston Parish Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bail.

He says the child’s mother, 22-year-old Kayla Depoy, found the girl unresponsive in her crib April 19 at the couple’s home.
