NEW YORK (AP) - The State University of New York is moving ahead with its plan to close a financially strapped Brooklyn hospital next week.
SUNY said Friday all services at Long Island College Hospital will end May 22.
Patients will either be discharged or transferred to other hospitals or long-term facilities.
The hospital has already stopped taking emergency calls.
As of Thursday, ambulances were directed to take emergency patients to other area hospitals. SUNY says walk-ins will continue to receive medical screening and stabilizing treatment until 7 a.m., May 22.
Brooklyn Health Partners had emerged as the top bidder to run the hospital, but SUNY terminated negotiations when they couldn’t come to terms on a contract.
State officials say the hospital has been losing an “unsustainable” $13 million a month.
