ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) - Four alternate jurors remain to be chosen for the trial of a man accused of killing eight people in 2008.
The Daily Gazette in Sterling reports (https://bit.ly/1llDDxT) eight women and four men were chosen Thursday for Nicholas Sheley’s latest trial. Jury selection is to continue Friday to choose the alternates.
Judge Jeffrey O’Connor denied a motion from Sheley attorney Jeremy Karlin to move the trial because of what he called a biased jury pool.
The 34-year-old Sheley has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of 29-year-old Brock Branson; 20-year-old Kilynna Blake; her 2-year-old son, Dayan; and 25-year-old Kenneth Ulve.
Sheley still faces trial in the deaths of an Arkansas couple found dead in Missouri. He is serving two life sentences for the murders of a Galesburg man and Sterling resident.
