DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - More than 5,000 locations were left without electricity after a severe storm roared through portions of Durham, clipping tree limbs and snapping power lines.
WTVD in Durham reports (https://abc11.tv/1n2kbHz) a line of thunderstorms moved through the Research Triangle area Thursday, leading to a tornado warning for the area. Initial reports showed trees and power lines were down in the area of Hope Valley Road on the city’s south side. Some streets were blocked by trees.
No injuries were reported.
Duke Energy said 5,171 customers were without power Thursday evening.
National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Ellis said an assessment team will go to Durham Friday to determine if the area experienced a tornado and how strong it was.
Eliis also said there were reports of flooding in Chapel Hill and Raleigh.
