OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Ogden police have captured a Weber County jail inmate who’s been missing since he walked away from a work crew nearly a week ago.

Police say 27-year-old Joseph Cook was arrested about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday after he apparently crossed the Ogden River in an attempt to flee the officers.

Cook and another inmate disappeared on Friday while working as part of a jail crew at a local animal shelter. The other inmate was arrested within hours, but Cook had remained on the run.

Police Lt. Tim Scott tells The (Provo) Daily Herald (https://tinyurl.com/lrrfj5g) a local resident tipped them off about a trespasser and they soon discovered a residential break-in.

Cook has been booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary, trespassing and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle.
