OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Senate has honored one of its former members for his historic preservation efforts in the state Capitol.

Former Sen. Charles Ford of Tulsa was honored on Wednesday for his work to restore the Senate Chamber and other areas of the Capitol to their original architectural design.

Ford was also recognized for raising $2.5 million in private donations to create a significant collection of original art telling the story of Oklahoma.

Senate Presdient Pro Tem Brian Bingman says the former senator has long recognized the importance of maintaining and preserving the beauty and architectural integrity of the Capitol so it can be a source of pride for the state.

Ford served 14 years in the state House before being elected to the Senate, where he served 24 years.
